Bodegas Pedro Escudero

Fuente Elvira Verdejo

The Escudero family—the patriarch Pedro, in particular—are recognized as being some of the very best grape growers in all of Rueda. Pedro is often approached by neighbors looking for advice about vineyard issues. While the family has only been bottling wine since 2002, they have been growing and selling grapes for many years. Their vineyard, named “Fuente Elvira,” is a sprawling 56-hectares, planted with 50 hectares of Verdejo and six of Viura. The soil here is gravel and sand over a red clay subsoil and is one of the most respected terroirs in the Rueda district. The Escuderos farm their land with strictly organic practices, even importing special compost because nothing local meets their exacting standards.

Tasting Notes

More structure and tension than the others from this range, medium bodied with honeysuckle and tending tropical notes at times. Freshness is key, here.
