Cultivation
Vineyards are farmed biodynamically using only manure and silice with no irrigation. Grapes are hand-picked in small crates, de-stemmed, and transferred into the 30 quintal wooden vats. Nothing is added before, during, or after the arrival of the bunch, except sulphur dioxide in minimum doses.
Podere San Giuseppe, home to Stella di Campalto, spans 13 hectares, including 6.7 hectares of vineyards with plans to expand further. The estate’s six main vineyard sites, set at 240–340 meters and surrounded by woodlands and olive groves, are carefully managed to maintain a thriving natural ecosystem. Each plot is treated as a distinct cru, vinified separately in wooden vats, and nurtured organically (since 1996) and biodynamically (since 2002) to preserve the purity and individuality of every vintage. Stella di Campalto produces what nature provides each year of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, with occasional Riserva or barrel-selected bottlings, tailoring each wine’s vinification and aging to the unique character of the year, resulting in pure, nuanced, and unrepeatable expressions of terroir.
