Tasting Notes
Lively ruby red with radiant brilliance, this wine offers a nose of balsamic and evergreen notes intertwined with the earthy aromas of forest underbrush. On the palate, delicate spice and subtle licorice unfold, revealing refined complexity, gentle balance, and a long, graceful finish.
Cultivation
Harvest began October 9, 2020 with manual harvesting in small boxes, withering in the cellar for 15 days.
Vinification
Fermentation begins after a short cold maceration and lasts around ten days with gentle délestage and light punch-downs. The wine then matures for 24 months in used French oak tonneaux and 12 months in bottle, completing malolactic fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
Aging
Aged for 24 months in used French oak tonneaux, then 12 months in bottle for finesse and harmony.
Founded in 1989 by Elio Ottin, who at just 23 transformed steep, coarse-soiled terrain between Quart and Saint-Christophe, Ottin now produces some of the Aosta Valley’s finest high-altitude wines. Guided by a farmer-scholar philosophy, Elio and his son Nicolas approach the vineyard and cellar with deep agronomic study and care, nurturing the land to express its unique mineral and sandy soils. The estate operates as a fully self-sustaining ecosystem, powered entirely by renewable mountain resources—stream water, solar energy, and biomass—and fertilized solely with manure from their own cattle. From Petite Arvine and Fumin to Pinot Noir and Torrette Superieur, Ottin wines reflect the richness of their mountain terroir and the meticulous stewardship of their vineyards.
