Tasting Notes

Amber red with ruby reflections, the nose reveals quinine and rhubarb with a hint of cinnamon, leading to an intense palate marked by a subtle, pleasant bitterness.

Cultivation

Free-standing espalier with Guyot pruning

Vinification

Barolo Chinato is created by infusing select herbs and spices into mature Barolo. Its aromatic base, balanced with quinine, melds with the wine through slow maceration, followed by maturation that harmonizes sweetness, bitterness, and warmth, resulting in an elegant, complex digestif.

Aging

The Barolo with the infusion rests for six months in a stainless steel tank.

For six generations, Marcarini has cultivated estate-owned vineyards in some of La Morra’s most prized sites, including La Serra and Brunate, where steep slopes, diverse soils, optimal sun exposure, and distinct microclimates yield wines of remarkable character while supporting thoughtful, sustainable farming. A pioneer of single-vineyard bottlings as early as the 1950s, Marcarini continues to highlight the individuality of its crus, including the historic Boschi di Berri vineyard, home to over 150-year-old pre-phylloxera Dolcetto vines. Rooted in a “classic” philosophy that seamlessly blends tradition and modern precision, the family carries forward its legacy in an eighteenth-century winery and underground cellars ideally suited for long, traditional élevage.
